📢 Dev Log Update: Moving Forward with RottenNet, the Website, and the Game Frameworks
Starting this week, I’m making a fundamental change in how I track development. Every Monday, I’ll outline the key goals I want to achieve for the week, and every Sunday night, I’ll either write a new dev log or update the last one to reflect what I managed to complete, what went right, and what didn’t go as planned.
The reason for this shift is simple: development isn’t a straight path. Some weeks, progress comes fast and things fall into place. Other weeks, everything grinds to a halt—whether it’s from technical setbacks, external pressures, or just the mental exhaustion of juggling everything at once. Instead of forcing arbitrary deadlines, I want a system that holds me accountable while allowing room for adjustments as challenges arise.
⚡ Current Focus: Three Major Development Fronts
Right now, I’m working on three major aspects of the Rotten Dawn ecosystem—each at different stages of progress, but all equally critical to the long-term vision.
🖥 1. The Website & API Integration
The website isn’t just a showcase for Rotten Dawn—it’s going to be a fully integrated platform for player accounts, RottenChain interactions, and the game’s API services. This means:
✅ Updating the API to properly handle game-related requests.
✅ Implementing user authentication and session tracking for future in-game interactions.
✅ Expanding the site’s content to include game information, patch notes, and community-driven features.
The end goal is to have a seamless connection between RottenNet, the game, and the website, allowing players to track progress, manage assets, and interact with the world even when they’re not in-game.
💾 2. RottenNet – The Launcher & Command Center
RottenNet is still in early development, but it remains one of the most important tools in the entire ecosystem. It’s more than just a game launcher—it’s a hub for managing every aspect of the Rotten Dawn universe.
Current work on RottenNet includes:
✅ Expanding the UI to make it more immersive and functional.
✅ Improving auto-updates & patching, so the software can evolve without manual intervention.
✅ Building out the Terminal System – This simulated hacking interface will add another layer of immersion, allowing deeper interaction with the world.
✅ Integrating RottenChain tracking, so players can monitor transactions, in-game assets, and economy shifts.
There’s still a long road ahead for RottenNet, but every update brings it closer to being the go-to survival tool for players navigating the Rotten Dawn experience.
🎮 3. The Game Frameworks
While the game itself is the end goal, the frameworks behind it are what will make or break the experience. These systems define how survival works, how NPCs interact, and how the world reacts to the player’s actions.
Ongoing work on the game frameworks includes:
✅ Refining the inventory system – Ensuring proper handling of weight, item slots, and interactions.
✅ Completing the Player Inventory & Character Components – These are foundational systems that need to be locked in before other mechanics can evolve.
✅ Enhancing AI behavior – NPCs need to react intelligently, whether they’re survivors or the undead.
✅ Testing and refining combat mechanics – Balancing between melee and ranged combat, ensuring weight and stamina play a role in decision-making.
These frameworks aren’t just about functionality—they’re about telling a story through mechanics, making the world feel alive, dangerous, and unpredictable.
🔮 The Road Ahead
The reality is, this project isn’t just about building a game—it’s about building a universe. RottenNet, the website, and the game itself all have to work together, creating a connected experience that extends beyond just playing.
This new Monday/Sunday development cycle is meant to keep things structured without being restrictive. Some weeks will bring major breakthroughs. Some will be slower, filled with trial and error. But no matter how long this takes, the goal remains the same:
To bring Rotten Dawn to life, piece by piece, and to never stop pushing forward.
🔥 The fight continues. Stay connected. 🔥
